Abstract
Today there are few ancient documents reflecting the original form of the Biblical text. Therefore, the description and study of handwritten documents displaying these texts have a great importance. In the collections of the Institute of Manuscripts of the National Library of Ukraine keeps a lot of manuscripts of different origin, displaying the biblical text in the original languages (Hebrew, Aramaic), as well as translations of biblical texts, comments and interpretation of these texts are kept. The publication describes the handwritten materials from the Judaica Department of the Library’s Institute for Manuscripts. As for today, there are 32 storage units in the 321 fund of the Judaica Department, containing the original Biblical text in Hebrew and Aramaic. These manuscripts can be divided into two categories. The first include fragments of the Torah scrolls and some other texts used in the religious practice of Judaism. The second category should include manuscripts in the form of codex, written in accordance with the Masoretic tradition. In addition, there are documents containing comments on Hebrew Bible texts, as well as translations and commentaries of these texts in Aramaic, Arabic and European languages and other texts on biblical themes. In addition to the canonical texts, the fund has documents showing noncanonical texts. The remaining documents are translations and comments in various languages referring to standard Biblical texts. The article includes also a list of manuscripts containing the biblical texts, fragments or comments that can correlate with the identified Biblical texts. The list includes basic information about the physical conditions of some documents. Despite the small volume and relatively small age of the oldest documents of this part of the collection, these manuscripts have certainly a considerable historical and cultural value and are the matter of more detailed research.
