Abstract
This publication presents the Ukrainian translation of the twelfth and thirteenth chapters of Bhagavadgita, composed perhaps in the 1st or 2nd century CE that is the most famous Hindu Scripture.
According to Hindu commentary tradition, the twelfth chapter is the end of the Second Part of the Bhagavadgita – The section on worship (upāsanā-kāṇḍa). It is entitled Bhakti Yoga and dedicated to praising this kind of yoga. The chapter regards as the best yogis those people who, riveting their minds on Krishna, worship Him, with the highest faith. Those who worship the Indefinable, the Unthinkable, the Unmanifest, the Omnipresent can also come to Krishna under certain conditions, but “greater is the travail of those whose mind is fixed on the Unmanifest; for it is hard for embodied mortals to gain the Unmanifest Goal”.
By the thirteenth chapter begins the last Part of the Bhagavadgita – The Section on Knowledge (jñāna-kāṇḍa), which is a kind of appendix to topics of previous two Parts. In the thirteenth chapter, concepts such as Field (kṣetra) or Prakṛti (i. e. Nature or body) and Knower of the Field (kṣetrajña) or Puruṣa (i. e. Spirit or soul), as well as knowledge and that which is to be known, are analyzed. Wherever something is born, animate or inanimate, it issues from the union of the Field and the Knower of the Field. The chapter noted, it is Nature that performs all actions and Spirit doesn’t perform them.
The concepts and realities considered in these chapters are explained by the translator in notes, with quotations from the Mahabharata, as well as by citing the Vedanta Sutras, Yoga Sutras, Laws of Manu, Samkhya Karika, Bhagavata-purana, Upanishads and other classical texts of Hinduism.
