“THE CHINESE DREAM” AS THE THEORY OF A NEW STAGE OF CHINA’S MODERNIZATION

Abstract
The article analyzes the historical background of formation, inner content and international context of the concept of “Chinese Dream” as a new ideology of the national revival. The particular attention is given to the formation of this concept in the historical discourse that is connected with the crisis of power in Modern China, as well as attempts to formulate a narrative for overcoming the existing/inner political problems. The connection between the concept of “Chinese Dream” with the ancient utopian ideas like dàtóng, tàipíng and jǐng tián, as well as its modern formulation within the views of Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Deng Xiaoping, Jiang Zemin, Hu Jintao and Xi Jinping. The Chinese communists refused to think in terms of class antagonism and revolutionary aims, and instead implement a national project – the construction of a strong state and the revival of the Chinese nation (“The Chinese Dream”). In general, Xi Jinping’s “Chinese Dream” combines the part of Mao Zedong’s “dream” (the building of socialism), Deng Xiaoping’s and Jiang Zemin’s “China revitalization” concept, and Hu Jintao’s “harmonious society”. “The Chinese Dream” continues the traditional narrative, which generally means that only under the guidance of CCP the Chinese people can build a better society.
