TRADITION AND TRADE ACTIVITIES OF THE VIETNAMESE – HISTORICAL FACT AND UNDERSTANDINGS

Abstract
In the development path of Vietnamese history and people, economic activities, including foreign trade have taken important roles. As a part of the united country, masters of the Dong Son, Sa Huynh, Oc Eo cultures... have early linked their large relations with the outside world. Also, as the peninsular country, situating at one of the main lines of the Asian system of maritime trade, bordering with Southeast-Asian countries and big markets, in history, the Vietnamese participated in multi-form exchanges and reciprocities in the area, essentially by means of the regional wide economic environment with greatly potential sources. Generally speaking, the East Sea is considered as a “Mini Mediterranean Sea” of the “Southeast Asian World”. Given various annals and royal records, this article seeks to bring into the public an alternative approach of the other past of Vietnam aiming to provide useful lights on maritime history and traditions of Vietnamese people.
