Abstract

According to the opinion of author of this article, W. Beilis belongs to the generation of Soviet orientalists who incarnated the best traditions of home Oriental Studies of the end of the XIX – the first half of the XX century, because among his teachers there were famous orientalists – А. Krymsky and T. Kezma. In scholar world W. Beilis is known as a researcher of works by Mas‘ud ibn Namdar, Abu Muhammad ibn Muhammad ibn al-Habbaria, Calipha ibn Hayiat al-Usfuri and other medieval Moslem authors. W. Beilis is known also as a founder of his school in Arabic studies. The author of this article considers that an orientalist from Luhansk W. Beilis did for development of Soviet Oriental Studies incommensurably more than some representatives of major centers of Oriental Studies of the former USSR.
