Abstract
The article is dedicated to the conflict of two cultural and religious worldviews and social systems in modern India – traditional Indian society with its religious and caste diversity and active implementation of the latest achievements of civilization in traditional lifestyle and Adivasis – tribal communities of Central India which preserve their original tribal social way of living and worship Nature beyond all known religions. The comparison of the two worldviews and the two types of society is based on the journalistic and artistic writings of Jacinta Kerketta, a well-known writer and journalist who is herself an Adivasi and considered by many to be the “voice” of the Central Indian tribes in their dialogue with modern civilization the onset of which causes imminent destruction of the lifestyle and spiritual and moral values of the tribes.
From the analysis of Jacinta Kerketta’s work, it becomes obvious that her defence of the non-consumer worldview of Adivasis, their natural spirituality and ability to coexist harmoniously with Nature and respect life in all its manifestations is interspersed with deep sadness caused by the fact that under the devastating blows of modern realities of coexistence with consumer society a huge part of the beauty and harmony of the primary lifestyle of Adivasis is lost due to bad habits, poverty, despair, moral impoverishment. With her work, Jacinta Kerketta appeals both to the outside world to pay attention to the problems of Adivasis, and to her own community with a call to resist the destructive influence of the outside world and prevent the moral and physical degeneration of the tribes.
