Abstract

The article deals with the processes of formation of the azerbaijanism ideology as a national ideal and state ideology in Azerbaijan.
Formation of the azerbaijanism idea in Azerbaijan has begun since the second half of the XIX century and reached its level of developed scientific-literary thought at the beginning of the XX century. Prominent Azerbaijan writers Mammadagha Shahtakhtli (1846–1931), Jalil Mammadguluzadeh (1869–1931) and others paid great contributions to this process.
In spite of all difficulties also during the years of Soviet power the azerbaijanism ideal, though not in the political-ideological level, was caused to live in literature and art. Thanks to the rational activity of the prominent men of pen, like Samad Vurgun (1906–1956), Mirza Ibrahimov (1911–1993), Rasul Rza (1910–1981), Bakhtiyar Vahabzadeh (1925–2009), Khalil Rza (1932–1994), Mammad Araz (1933–2004) and others in this direction, the azerbaijanism ideal forms the basis of national thought of the people.
At present the azerbaijanism training forms the state ideology of the independent Azerbaijan.
The azerbaijanism ideal unites the Azerbaijanis all over the world and directs the activity of Diaspora organizations.
The azerbaijanism ideal is also a system which covers ties and cooperation of friendly countries to Azerbaijan. The development of the Azerbaijan-Ukrainian ties of century-old historical traditions in the contemporary level is an organic component of this system.
