Ukrainian Community in Manchuria in Polish-Japanese Relations in the 1930s

Abstract
The aim of the article is to analyze the place and role of the Ukrainian community in Manchuria in Polish-Japanese relations in the 1930s. Particular attention is paid to the policy of interwar Poland and imperial Japan regarding the creation of Green Ukraine. In this context, the issue was the use of the potential of Ukrainian emigration to Manchuria in the great-power plans of these states, which were interested in the dismemberment of the USSR and the seizure of the territories of the Far East.
The analysis of J. Piłsudski’s policy in establishing cooperation with Japan demonstrated their common interests in the dismemberment of the Soviet Union into separate national states and their subordination to their political influence. It was considered expedient to use the potential of Ukrainian emigration of various political orientations: supporters of the Ukrainian People’s Republic (UPR), Hetman P. Skoropadsky and the OUN. It should be noted that Polish-Japanese cooperation on the Ukrainian issue had negative consequences for the consolidation of the Ukrainian liberation movement.
It was found that in the early 1930s, the implementation of the concept of Prometheism in Poland regarding the creation of Green Ukraine was based on the support of Imperial Japan and the use of the UPR emigration in Harbin. However, the UPR representatives resolutely refused the role of a puppet in the great-power doctrine of Japan, and sought to create an independent Green Ukraine in the Far East. In this regard, on the eve of World War II, the militarist circles of Japan reoriented themselves to using the potential of the Far Eastern OUN in the upcoming war with the USSR. While hatching plans to transform the Ukrainian community of Harbin into a tool for the implementation of their great-power doctrines, Poland itself became a victim of external aggression at the beginning of the war, and Japan suffered the most at its final stage.
