Abstract

Yaroslav Dashkevych (1926–2010), a well-known Ukrainian orientalist, fruitfully worked in the field of Armenian studies. During 50 years of his activity he produced more than 100 publications on this topic. In 2001 Ya. Dashkevych selected his articles which were earlier published in such prestigious academic journals, as “Revue des Études Arméniennes”, “Ural-Altaische Jahrbücher”, “Harvard Ukrainian Studies”, “Rocznik Orientalistyczny” and put in print them as a solid anthology “Armenia and Ukraine”. The articles give a comprehensive picture of the scholar’s long-term work. Different in size and importance (monographs, articles, reports and reviews), they reveal previously less researched and also unknown pages from the history of two nations – Armenian and Ukrainian, which have lived together on the territory of Ukraine since ancient times. Ya. Dashkevych was also interested in the research of his colleagues, who contributed greatly to the origins and development of academic Armenian studies in Ukraine in the 19th century, which keep being developed now.
