Abstract

Lidiya Petrova was a well-known Arabist, specialist in Arabic literature, poet and translator. She was born in 1936 in Nizhny Novgorod. In 1966 she graduated from Leningrad State University. In 1974 she defended a thesis on the poetry of Ibn Quzmān.
Lidiya Petrova was invited to teach Arabic in Kyiv University in 1972 and became one of those who resumed teaching Arabic in Ukraine after a long interruption in the 1950s–1960s. Along with teaching activities in a number of institutions, she translated Arabic poetry and prose into Russian and wrote poems (her poem collections were published in 2001 and 2006). Her last place of work was Kyiv National Linguistic University.
Lidiya Petrova passed away in Kyiv on 17 August 2019.
