Abstract

In this paper, an overview of the studies on the image of the four interrelated gods is presented. These gods, Hapi, Duamutef, Kebehsenuf and Amseti, are called “The Children of Horus” in the ancient religious texts. Even among the contemporary Egyptological studies, these gods are often accepted mainly as the protectors of the organs of the deceased. Nevertheless, some researches point out that this function of the gods was not the only, and probably not the main. The ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead is good example of the source that could confirm this statement, as it presents the gods in many different contexts. In this research, all known works on the role of the Children of Horus have been considered, both, on the role of the deities in the Book of the Dead and in Egyptian mythology as a whole.
