Abstract

This memorial and scientific publication is dedicated to fruitful activity of such renowned Ukrainian scholars, as Andriy Kovalivsky (1895–1969), Taufik Kezma (1882–1958), Leonid Leshchenko (1931–2013), Rem Simonenko (1928–2012), Stanislav Parhomchuk (1925–1975), Arnold Shlepakov (1930–1996) and Omeljan Pritzak (1919–2006). The unknown facts about the biography of the author and his colleagues, which open new pages in the history of Ukrainian Oriental Studies, are of great interest to the historians. Igor Chernikov, the author of the publication, was born in Peski, Poltava district in 1931. After leaving secondary school with silver medal in 1949 he entered Taras Shevchenko Kyiv University, Faculty of International Relations. Today Igor Chernikov, Doctor of History, professor, is the author of 231 scientific works, including 5 individual and 12 collective monographs published in Ukraine, Russia, Turkey, France, Great Britain and Romania.
