Анотація

Стаття присвячується питанню синкретизму в Непалі, країні, де індуїзм і буддизм взаємодіяли протягом століть. Аналізуються стратегії пристосування і взаємодії обох традицій, особливо в умовах проіндуськи зорієнтованих династій Непалу. Зосереджуючись на історії непальської сангхи, автор досліджує, як саме буддійська громада мала підлаштовуватися під політичну обстановку у формально індуському королівстві, де при дворі королів домінували саме індуські культи. Проаналізовано також, яким чином буддизм та індуїзм у прихованій м’якій конкуренції мали приймати елементи обох релігій до своїх практик, як боролися за вплив на двір королів, адаптувалися до змін соціальних та політичних. Так, буддисти мали провести певні реформи, в т. ч. вдатися до нових стратегій захисту сангхи, створити та переосмислити традиційні буддійські тексти по-новому. Чудовою ілюстрацією до цих процесів є досліджувана у статті стела з монастиря Сваямбхунатх, присвячена відновленню ступи в 1750-х роках.
